Life Insurance, Placed by a Licensed Agent
Most people are told they will not qualify. Usually that is wrong — the real question is which underwriting path fits your health history. Answer five questions and a licensed agent comes back with what you actually qualify for.
What this office actually writes
Final expense, whole life and term life insurance, placed with an independent agent rather than one company's product line. No medical exam is involved in this product line — most applications are a conversation and an electronic signature.
The three underwriting paths — this is the whole subject
Almost every version of "can I get life insurance with my health history" is really a question about which path you qualify for. Most public writing on the subject never names them:
- Level benefit — the full death benefit from day one. Needs the cleanest health answers.
- Graded or modified benefit — pays a reduced amount if death occurs in the first two to three years, then the full amount. This is where most managed conditions land, and it is routinely mistaken for a decline.
- Guaranteed issue — no health questions at all. Has a waiting period for natural causes and costs more per dollar of coverage.
Knowing which carriers put which condition on which path before an application goes in is the job, because a decline leaves a record and makes the next attempt harder.
Coverage by health situation
Each page below is written from applications this office has actually placed.
- Life Insurance with Diabetes — Coverage placed for applicants managing type 2 diabetes on Metformin, and for an applicant with diabetes alongside high blood pressure and mobility limitation.
- Life Insurance with High Blood Pressure — Coverage placed for multiple applicants on common antihypertensives, including in combination with other conditions.
- Life Insurance for Smokers — Half of the policies placed in this book were for tobacco users, including placements at level benefit rather than graded.
- Life Insurance with Depression & Anxiety — Coverage placed for applicants treating depression and anxiety, including applicants who also use tobacco.
- Life Insurance with GLP-1 Medication — Coverage placed for an applicant on a GLP-1 medication alongside several other prescriptions.
- Life Insurance with Back Surgery — Coverage placed for an applicant following three failed back surgeries and a knee replacement, while on prescription pain management.
- Life Insurance with Arthritis — Coverage placed for applicants with arthritis, including on methotrexate and hydroxychloroquine therapy.
- Life Insurance with Thyroid Conditions — Coverage placed at level benefit for an applicant with a thyroid condition who also used tobacco.
- No Medical Exam Life Insurance — Every policy in this book was placed without a paramedical exam, using simplified and guaranteed-issue underwriting.
- Life Insurance for Seniors Over 60 — The applicants placed in this book were predominantly in their sixties and seventies.
- Final Expense Life Insurance — Final expense is the product line this book was written in.
- Previously Declined Life Insurance — Guaranteed-issue coverage, which asks no health questions, was placed for applicants whose health history would not clear a fully underwritten policy.
